Friday Night Lights (well Saturday in this case) kicked off this last week in Texas. Kingwood hosted Cy Woods at Turner Stadium. While I was excited to see some normality return in the world dominated by COVID-19, the real reason I was in attendance was to watch my daughter march in the band at half time. Kingwood High School is one of the few military marching bands in the State of Texas.
With only about 7 days of practice, the band known by many as KM4B put together this drill for the half time show which also featured the nationally recognized Kingwood Fillies.
I look forward to the season ahead, and GO MUSTANGS!

What a great reminder today. For those that know me well, my health has been a challenge over the years, and what made it a challenge is knowing where I wanted to be in regards to health, yet remaining in the same habits that got me there to begin with.
"We cannot become what we need by remaining what we are." - John Maxwell
If 6 months ago you asked me if I would buy a Peloton, I would have laughed at you. Then I bought one on encouragement from my coach. If 30 days ago you asked me if I would complete 50 rides in 30 days, I would have laughed at you. In less than 30 days, I hit 50 rides.
What I realized is that to get what I wanted, I had to be the person necessary to achieve it. In this case, I needed to be the person that worked out consistently and maintained a better overall diet. Better days are coming, and big goals will be crushed. It's one day at a time, and I'm not laughing about it anymore.
May this be an encouragement to you today. Cheers to going after...
While my blog posts are often focused on helping others to grow both as a person and business owner, I thought I would share a little insight into my passion for grilling and smoking (Traeger 780 Series) with this simple recipe for Jalapeño Dove Poppers. Last week, I had a friend drop off 14 dove breasts from a hunt he had in South Texas. For those that have never tried dove, it is a dark meat with a slight gamey taste. Paired with the following ingredients, the taste was off the charts. Follow these steps for a great pre-game snack for the next college football game.
Split a dozen large jalapeños, deseed, rinse, and place in a container of ice water. This will help take some of the heat off pepper. I would recommend a minimum of 30 minutes. Note: It is a good idea to work with gloves when handling jalapeños, otherwise your hands will feel like they are on fire.
Rinse the dove meat and clean off any remaining feathers. This is...
The perfect Labor Day post is a post about work.
Proverbs 21:5 says, "Good planning and hard work lead to prosperity, but hasty shortcuts lead to poverty." In other words, good things take time, and if you rush it, prepare for it to all fall apart.
Stop rushing for success. Success is incremental, and it is definitely not a straight line. You are going to need to put in the work. Just do the work. I can't believe how simple the concept, yet few will choose to do the work.
Your caveat moving forward in the week. If anyone is telling you that you can shortcut something, run. It's going to require work. This applies not only to work. It applies to digging yourself out of debt, writing a book, losing weight, investing, and I can go on and on.
Create your plan, and work the plan. Work hard. Working hard often is confused with sacrificing time with family and friends. That is a lie. Work hard in the hours allotted. This does not mean work 24-7. Create a schedule and follow the...
